From a human rights-oriented educational perspective, Ruhr University Bochum, the TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen are jointly opening up the university space for a critical and differentiated exchange. In light of the fact that anti-Semitic and racist incidents are also increasingly occurring at universities, it is particularly important to clearly name and critically question misanthropic and dehumanizing narratives without playing off forms of discrimination against each other. The Anti-Discrimination Network of the University Alliance Ruhr invites all university members and the interested public to use the three weeks of the campaign period to gain knowledge, reflect and discuss together in the form of lectures, workshops and activities. The campaign days will take place at all three UA-Ruhr university campuses, both in person and digitally.
“We are once again experiencing an alarming increase in anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic incidents in Germany, as several studies by civil society organizations show. Not least the results of this year's European and state elections also show that anti-Semitism, racism and right-wing extremism are serious contemporary problems, including at universities. In the current climate of discourse in Germany, which is characterized by tensions and polarization and in which questions of freedom of opinion and the understanding of anti-Semitism, racism and “German reason of state” are being intensively discussed, we would like to make a contribution to the dialogue with the action days,” says the Anti-Discrimination Network on the motivation for implementing the action days.
