The panel on “Performing Waste” will address the question of how artistic and discursive projects can help to avoid waste.
In May, the College for Social Sciences and Humanities will be hosting exciting events on the topics of "Performing Waste" and "Digital Ecosystems for Social Innovation". Members of the UA Ruhr can take part and registration is still open.

Panel and Artist Talk "Performing Waste"

The old dream that plastic would improve the world is one of many failed projects of modernity. This two-day event, which is co-organised by College Senior Fellow Małgorzata Sugiera and Dorota Sajewska (Ruhr University Bochum), consists of two closed writing workshops (hybrid) and two public talks (on-site).

The panel on 14 May will focus on how artistic and discursive/speculative projects and practices could help us unmake waste by looking for an alternative modernity to counter the naturalised binaries which still produce disposable materials, bodies, and ways of living. In the artist talk on 15 May, artist-collector Joanna Zdzienicka-Obałek reflects upon her search for artistic methods and field practices gathering rubbish at Żabie Doły, a nature and landscape protected area.

Participation in the panel and the artist talk is open to students, doctoral candidates and post-docs from the UA Ruhr universities. Registration is possible until May 12. Further information on the event can be found on the College's homepage.

Workshop „Towards Social Innovation Digital Ecosystems (SIDEs): Challenges and Opportunities“

In this workshop, participants will discuss how digital ecosystems can support social innovation and what challenges such ecosystems must overcome to effectively foster and disseminate social innovation initiatives. Attendees will learn from experts in the field of social innovation as well as from cases in Latin America and Europe. Participation in the panel and the artist talk is open to students, doctoral candidates and post-docs from the UA Ruhr universities. Registration is possible until May 17. Further information on the event can be found on the College's homepage.
