The College for Social Sciences and Humanities is organizing two international workshops and a panel discussion on feminist foreign policy in June.
In June, two workshops and a panel discussion will take place at the College for Social Sciences and Humanities, to which members of the UA Ruhr are cordially invited. Two further events are being planned.

Workshop, 4–5 June: Forgotten by Design. Foundational Limits and Dysfunctionalities in Computational Cognitive-Behavioral Environments

What is made technologically impossible through the cognitive-behavioural design of computational environments, thus becoming invisible, excluded, disposed, forgotten, or foreclosed? This workshop assumes a critical media studies perspective to tackle the history and theory of computational environments that are designed to study, model, or shape cognitive behaviour and decision-making, bringing together humanities scholars from the Netherlands, the United States, and Germany.
Organisation: Christina Vagt, Senior Fellow, University of California Santa Barbara (USA) | Florian Sprenger, Ruhr University Bochum

Further information and registration (until June 3rd)

Workshop, 12–13 June: Fashion, Image, Exile: The Rediscovery of Theatre Photographer Elli Marcus (1899-1977)

The recently rediscovered work of theatre photographer Elli Marcus serves as the starting point for a broader discussion of fashion and theatre photography in this two-day workshop in cooperation with the Chair of Cultural Anthropology of Textiles (TU Dortmund University). Its specific focus is on the fate of fashion and theatre photography in exile and the challenges associated with curating photographic images for contemporary audiences. With the exception of the lecture by Mila Ganeva, the workshop will be conducted in German.

Organisation: Mila Ganeva, Senior Fellow, Miami University (USA) | Gudrun M. König, TU Dortmund University

Further information and registration (until June 10th)

Panel Discussion, 25 June: Ambitious Goals, Sober Reality? Feminist Foreign and Development Policy Put to the Test

In recent years, numerous governments have adopted a “feminist foreign policy”, a contested effort to bring about a paradigm shift in how their country engages with the rest of the world. In this public panel discussion, experts from government and academia will address various facets of feminist foreign and development policy, drawing on the experiences of Germany and other countries.

Organisation: Stephen Brown, Senior Fellow, University of Ottawa (Canada) | Tobias Debiel, Institute for Delevopment and Peace (INEF), University of Duisburg-Essen

Information and registration (until June 21st)
