Joint Study Programs
Since the winter semester 2013/14, joint Master's degree programmes have been set up at the University Alliance Ruhr to offer students additional specialization options. Four courses have been set up so far.
Master's Program in Biodiversity
Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen have been offering the research-oriented Master's degree in Biodiversity since the 2013/14 winter semester. Twelve professors cover modern biodiversity research in complementary working groups and enable a wide range of specializations. The "MSc Biodiversity" is characterized by excellent interdisciplinary research and a unique focus on the biodiversity of microorganisms such as fungi and protists.
Master's Program in Medical Physics
TU Dortmund University and Ruhr University Bochum have been jointly offering the Master's degree course in Medical Physics since the 2014/15 winter semester. The course, which is unique in Germany, combines medical and physical expertise and prepares graduates to take on responsibility at the interface of medicine and physics.

Master's Program in Econometrics
The Master's degree program in Econometrics is a four-semester, English-language program offered by TU Dortmund University, Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen. Since 2019, it has been offered jointly by the economics departments of the three universities and the Department of Statistics at TU Dortmund University. The program combines expertise in empirical economic research and economics with the methodological training of Dortmund statisticians.
Master's Program in Empirical Multilingualism Research
The Master's degree in Empirical Multilingualism Research at the UA Ruhr, offered by Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund University, is aimed at students with a background in philology and linguistics. Since the 2018/19 winter semester, it has offered a wide range of opportunities to specialize in linguistic multilingualism research through cross-institutional cooperation.
