Ulf Richter elected Chancellor of the University of Duisburg-Essen

Ulf Richter is to become the new Chancellor of the University of Duisburg-Essen. The university electoral assembly unanimously elected the business lawyer on September 6, 2024.

The new Chancellor of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Ulf Richter, was most recently Chancellor of the University of Siegen and brings with him extensive experience from other professional positions as Head of Human Resources, Managing Director, authorized signatory and consultant. Ulf Richter's term of office runs for ten years. He is a member of the Rectorate, Head of Administration and responsible for the budget. Richter succeeds Chancellor Jens Andreas Meinen, who moved to Heidelberg on September 1, 2024.

“I would like to thank all members of the University Assembly for their trust and for electing me as Chancellor of the University of Duisburg-Essen. I am very much looking forward to my new role and will bring all my energy and experience to bear to make this university even more attractive and stronger,” said Ulf Richter after his election.

Ulf Richter plans to use his work to continue the successful UDE Administration2030# strategy process with new impetus. Richter: “The University of Duisburg-Essen is in a very good position, and the administration has certainly contributed to this. We are tackling the challenges of campus development together as part of the master plan for university construction. The fact that UDE is allowed to be part of the pilot project of the NRW Ministry of Culture and Science shows the trust that the Ministry places in UDE. I will contribute to the project with all my experience as spokesperson for the university construction working group at federal level, but also from many exciting construction projects in Siegen.”

Richter also has a major personal goal: “I have been very fortunate in my private and professional life that I have always met people who have trusted me and supported me. I am very grateful for that. It would be a great joy and satisfaction for me if others were to say the same about me.”
