The Three Universities Affiliated in University Alliance Ruhr
On March 12, 2007, the three partner universities Bochum, Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen consolidated as University Alliance Ruhr in order to bundle their respective competencies and resources and to continuously optimize their performance and competitiveness – following the principle “three universities, one community, endless opportunities”. In addition to excellence in research and teaching, all three UA Ruhr universities strongly promote transfer, equal opportunities, family-friendly workplace environment, environmental protection, sustainability, and health.
Ruhr University Bochum
In 1965, Ruhr University Bochum was the first university established in the Ruhr area. Today it has about 40,000 students, 5,500 employees and 21 departments, offering more than 200 degree programs. It covers the entire range of subjects in the natural sciences, engineering, life sciences and humanities. Its excellence in research is based on the networking across disciplines. Its results are not only transferred into the international science community, but also into society and the region, whose transformation Ruhr University has helped to shape from the very beginning. As a university fostering start-ups, it is ranked sixth in Germany.
TU Dortmund University
TU Dortmund University is a young university whose profile is characterized by a distinctive cooperation of natural and engineering sciences as well as social and cultural sciences. Approximately 2,600 researchers in 17 departments conduct cutting-edge research. TU Dortmund University also has a lot to offer its approximately 30,300 students: There are more than 80 Bachelor's and Master's degree programs including innovative and interdisciplinary courses. In the area of transfer, TU Dortmund University initiates and promotes business start-ups from the world of science. People from around 130 countries come together on the international campus.
University of Duisburg-Essen
The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is one of the largest and at the same time youngest universities in Germany. It is known for its strong research, excellent teaching and great diversity. With its outstanding cutting-edge research, it is internationally competitive, for example thanks to its unique focus on water research. With innovative courses in over 150 Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, ranging from aquatic biology to business informatics, UDE offers a broad spectrum of study programs. Numerous members of the university work intensively with partners from society, industry and politics to develop scientific innovations to solve societal challenges.
